Sport halls

Sport and community in the architectural concept

4 locations. 4 colors. 2 principals.

In September 2021, the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg decided to realise the new construction of three 2-field sports halls and one 3-field sports hall at four locations within the framework of a PPP owner model. The new buildings will replace the old sports halls, some of which already exist there, which will be demolished as part of the project.

Architectural concept

"Sport as a unifying element" is the overarching design concept of all hall locations. The halls connect sport and community. Their characteristic facades, window bands and colours create identity and fit harmoniously into the surroundings. Practically designed floor plans allow for fluid movement.

Energy and building concept

The focus is on energy efficiency. The building envelopes comply with the GEG 2021, heat comes from central heating systems and local heating network. Ventilation systems with heat recovery ensure pleasant air. LED lighting and PV systems reduce energy requirements.

Three-field sports hall Hanseviertel

The circumferential band with open and closed areas is an identity-forming element for the sports halls. It also provides natural lighting in the completely illuminated hall.

The structure of the three-field hall is divided into the one-storey base area, on which the upper storey is then slightly offset. The differentiated formulation of the volume makes the various functions within the sports hall visible from the outside. At the same time, the large-scale construction of the sports hall blends harmoniously into the heterogeneous surroundings of small-scale residential buildings and the old barracks buildings.
