Most people take a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in for granted. This is not the case for homeless people, who have to contend with the cold and overcrowded facilities, especially in winter. For them, having their own little home can be a key step on the arduous path back into society.
The »Little Home« association has set itself the task of supporting people without a permanent home on their way back into the system. With mobile wooden living boxes that contain a mattress, a shelf, a sink, a camping toilet, a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher.
Since it was founded in 2016, the organisation has built over 200 homes throughout Germany and given them away to homeless people. Experience shows: The small 3.2 m² houses can make a difference. According to »Little Home«, more than 130 of the recipients have since found permanent accommodation again and over 90 have found a job.
As architects, we also deal with spaces in our daily work in which people can grow according to their potential. In order to support the work of »Little Home«, we are once again foregoing Christmas presents for our business partners this year and donating to this meaningful project, which our team selected together.
We wish everyone a wonderful, reflective Christmas season and only the best for 2024.
