MODERNISATION Residential building Benittstrasse
The tower block built in the 1960s in Hamburg's Finkenwerder district, not far from Köhlfleet, shines in new splendour following extensive energy-efficient refurbishment. The façade was carefully modernised with a focus on preserving the original character while at the same time adapting it to modern standards. Clinker brick slips, which create a reference to the surrounding buildings, characterise the new appearance and give the building a contemporary yet familiar look.

The seven- to eight-storey residential complex impresses with its harmonious façade design, in which dark clinker brick slips adorn the main body of the residential building. The street-facing part of the building on the eighth floor stands out with light-coloured clinker brick slips, creating an exciting contrast. Metallic elements on the balcony parapets, on the sides of the windows and as horizontal accents lighten up the façade and give it a modern touch.

The renovation of the façade with clinker brick slips preserves the original character of the residential building.

The entrance area was also upgraded as part of the modernisation. A new front door, a partition wall with metal panelling and the integration of a modern letterbox system and doorbell panel give the tower block a contemporary and inviting appearance.
In addition to the visual upgrade, the refurbishment focussed on energy efficiency. Modern thermal insulation and the replacement of the windows ensure improved thermal and sound insulation that meets today's standards. The building was thus brought up to the latest energy standards without losing its characteristic appearance.

The careful refurbishment not only optimised the energy efficiency of the tower block, but also preserved its original character as a striking building in Finkenwerder. The clinker brick slips combine tradition and modernity and once again make the tower block a distinctive part of the cityscape.
