BILLE begins

Opening and First Day of School at the New Bille-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Bergedorf

At the end of August, the time had finally come: the first fifth-grade students moved into the Bille Grammar School designed by us. Not all of the buildings are complete yet, but with the start of the school year, the most important part has begun: the school is coming to life. With 168 enrolments, the new school immediately became the most sought-after of Bergedorf’s six grammar schools. Six fifth-grade classes are starting here together – along with an educational concept centred on self-directed and interest-based learning, democratic participation, movement and engagement. The architecture supports this approach with open learning landscapes, spaces for group work and small retreat areas known as »learning pods«. Together, they create a variety of settings for collaborative, independent and focused learning. While the first students are already bringing the new spaces to life, we are working at full speed on the final parts of the project. We look forward to seeing the ensemble complete!
