NEW BUILDING Grundschule Bliedersdorf-Nottensdorf

One village for all

The construction of the new Bliedersdorf-Nottensdorf primary school marks an important milestone for education in the two villages to the west of Hamburg. As part of a successful PPP process, a place for a new small village community is currently being created based on the surrounding buildings, which is growing from the children of the villages of Bliedersdorf and Nottensdorf. The new building, which meets the diverse requirements of modern school life and at the same time impresses with its childlike character, creates a common place of learning and living: »BLINO«.

Give learning a home

The new primary school is not only a place of learning, but also a space for togetherness. The identity-creating design concept strengthens the pupils' sense of belonging to their school. The various functions of the new school building are designed as small, individual houses that are intended to serve as a familiar home for the children. The positioning of the building results in clearly zoned outdoor areas and access routes: The main access with the adjacent »Kiss & Ride Zone«, which enables the children to arrive safely, is provided through the schoolyard. The open spaces around the school building offer a wide variety of recreational qualities. In addition to the functionally structured playground, there is a school garden, a school forest and orchards that allow children to play and learn in a natural environment.

Safe arrival

Clinker dress with three color worlds

The single-storey design of the new building ensures barrier-free accessibility. The child-friendly scale and harmonious integration into the village structure create a lively and inviting place for children. The design of the façade makes reference to the surrounding village structure, in which various houses stand close together and form a community. The clinker brick acts as a unifying element for all the houses. At the same time, each house has its own character through the use of different brick colors and roof shapes. The different functions of the school are highlighted by colorful elements: The learning houses shine in warm yellow, the communal areas such as the foyer, canteen, administration and all-day school are presented in calm, fresh turquoise and the sports hall sets a dynamic accent with vibrant green.

Rooms with heart and structure

The primary school is divided into the functional areas of the learning houses and the overarching area with foyer, canteen, administration, specialist lessons, all-day school and sports hall. The use of pictograms, which symbolize the use of space and visually pick up on the learning houses, supports orientation in the building and strengthens identification with the location. The multifunctional foyer forms the beating heart of the school and provides a clear initial orientation upon entering. Mobile partition walls allow the adjacent canteen and music room to be used flexibly. The slightly raised music room can also be used as a stage for events. The library to the east is visually connected to the foyer by a large interior window. The administration as a self-sufficient unit, the canteen kitchen adjacent to the south-west, the central WC core and the creative workshop with adjoining rooms and janitor's workshop are strategically arranged around the foyer.

Community as a central idea

The checkrooms of the four learning houses are directly adjacent to the foyer. They are clearly structured by built-in furniture and clearly assigned to each learning house. The learning houses divide the school into two identical but different areas in terms of design and form creative hubs with their central learning studios. Beyond the function of a conventional learning corridor, these provide space for communication, differentiation, group work and play. Expansions, integrated seating areas and generously glazed group and differentiation rooms create a lively center and a variety of possible uses. The combination of wood, colorful accents and white surfaces gives the interiors a fresh yet comfortable atmosphere.

The guiding principle of a village community is reflected throughout the architecture and interior design, making the new »BLINO« primary school not only a place of learning, but also a place to meet and grow together.

We are looking forward to a school in which we have more space for interaction within the school community and which retains the sheltered and familiar character that characterizes our small village schools.
