We are delighted to have won an identity-forming school construction project in Cologne-Höhenberg! Together with our partner Depenbrock, we are realising the new construction of a primary school with sports hall, the extension of the Katharina-Henoth comprehensive school and a caretaker's house - all on one site and united by a holistic design concept.
Architecturally, the focus is on sensitive integration into the existing neighbourhood and a sensitive connection to the existing building - with a red façade for the comprehensive school and a white and beige façade for the primary school. Both buildings reinterpret the structural identity of the campus and create distinctive addresses with their differentiated design. Generous window areas and open entrance areas promote a bright, inviting atmosphere and strengthen the connection between inside and outside.
Inside, individual colour schemes divide the buildings into functional areas and are reflected in walls, floors, doors, furniture and the signage system. Robust, warm materials, wood and white surfaces create a fresh, cosy atmosphere. In both schools, modern learning environments are being created that combine open, flexible room structures with places of retreat and support a variety of educational concepts.
The sports hall is architecturally integrated into the overall concept and is not only available to the school, but also to the neighbourhood for sports activities. An assembly hall completes the spatial programme as a versatile meeting point for school and neighbourhood events.
The caretaker's house in the south-west rounds off the campus. Two flats with their own address, retreat quality and direct connection to the school buildings turn the functional building block into a cosy, integrated part of the overall picture.
An ensemble of three buildings on 8,906 m² - as a new, open address for education and the neighbourhood.
